"Thanks for letting me know David. I'll see what happens from here,"
===Vincent Hale comments this to David Davis, the man sitting on the opposite side of the mahogany table to him, having just been informed of some information that pertains to him, although it is unknown what that information is at this present moment in time. Both men seem to be enjoying a burger and some cake together, having chosen this place to meet, considering as it's in Philly, which is where Hale will be based for his EOV career, as well as where David is based for his occupation as a journalist. Although the two men have had a 'frosty' relationship at points during their careers (including Vincent famously shunning Davis when he lost the GWL title back in 2011), it's something that has always been a by-product of the sort of person Hale is; the two get along when wrestling isn't involved with their discussions.
Currently, David is attired in a black suit with a white shirt and navy blue tie as well as black leather formal shoes, considering that he is on lunch break from his job, although this meeting with Vince is a 'work commitment', so to speak. For his part, Hale is dressed in a grey suit with a white undershirt and faded red tie, as well as brown loafers that appear to be a size or two small, considering they are tightly fitting against his feet. David seems professional in his expressions, whilst Vincent is a lot more calm and relaxed in his mannerisms, although there is a glint of focus within his eyes.===
"No problems," David comments in reply, whilst taking another bite of the burger that is in front of him. "Thought I'd inform you, in case you hadn't gotten the chance to hear yet,". Whilst unknown what he means to the general population, Vince simply gives him an understanding nod in response to his comments.
"I had already heard," is the reply muttered, as Vincent slightly looks down at the half-eaten cake that he has left. "I didn't know if someone was saying it as a prank though, or if those comments were actually the truth," a soft laugh leaves his lips, as it appears that the discussion is about recent comments attributed to a source close to the family of Miles Hanley, who had stated that he had been the one to issue the offer in regards to Vincent's supposed 'contractual obligation' with MD Sports:: the company that had served as his agents for three years. "Miles knows that deep down, I was always going to leave. Ah well, I know he's just trying to gain a better pay out for what happened,".
"Aren't you worried that the court might agree with him? That he will get a better pay out, due to the method in which you left the company," David's words are hollow and a stark contrast to his usual demeanor. Although there hasn't been a lot of details released about the severance agreement that Vincent and MD Sports entered, it appears that Hale is confident that the court challenge won't amount to much (if anything).
"Not at all," smiling, his confidence radiates throughout every word spoken. "See, I was under no obligation to pay more than the allotted amount remaining in the contract, but you know how MD are," his voice turns colder with the mention of the company. "They're always looking for excessive ways to squeeze every penny out of those who leave them, thinking that they're well within their rights. They haven't realized that the agreement was 'always' watertight; no challenge can overturn it," David looks at him, not surprised by his confidence. "Anyway, that's not for me to deal with whilst the court are:: it's got nothing to do with my reasoning for actually requesting this promotional time with you today," his attempt to steer the conversation away from those issues works, as David simply nods and looks through the notes that he has on his lap.
"I know," David sighs, as he looks back up at Vince. "How does it feel to be in Philadelphia again? Even more so, considering you've been noted to say that Philly is one of the most passionate cities that you have 'ever' competed in?" Remembering back to the interview Vince did on the "Davis Hour" with a local radio station, the statements Vince had made about Philly in the past meant that he wasn't surprised when he got the news that Hale was signing with EOV. He knows just how flattering Vincent has been in remarks about the place; how much he likes competing in the city.
===Hale's own book 'Riding the Halestorm' affirms that statement, as Vince listed Philadelphia as number two (behind only Chicago) as the greatest place that he has ever worked in. Even as a 'heel', there have been numerous Philly fans who hold him in the highest regard, due to the fact that he hardly changes his persona either inside or outside the ring. He's still the same person---regardless of whether he is portraying someone supposed to be a 'hero' or 'villain'. Something that has led a lot of people to call him 'the ultimate anti-hero' when it comes to what he is in the ring:: although he has laughed those suggestions off and simply remarked that he is just being who he is. Nothing can ever pigeon hole that into a certain aspect of wrestling or dictate what people think of him, even though their opinions of him have no affect on how he elects to go about his business.===
"I'll admit---the federation being based in Philly is one of the major reasons that I decided to sign on," smiling, he takes a short breath as he knows that many people have spoken about the fact, that EOV isn't the style of federation they expected Hale to sign with. Especially, seeing as he is known as being the 'Pinnacle of Pure Wrestling'; that's something that he has risen to on many occasions. "It's an amazing environment to compete in; the fans are passionate. I know that I don't consider the fans to be a major aspect of wrestling, seeing as I firmly believe in the 'leave it to the ring' mentality, but you can't deny they believe in the wrestling,".
Pausing, he allows those words to be written onto the plain paper that Davis brought along with him. "That they just want to be able to see the best that they can, no matter who provides it to them. Am I the best? No, it's simply a subjective label which is only tagged onto someone, until another person comes along and proves themselves to be better,". "Hence why I don't get myself too invested with those sorts of menial matters:: they've irrelevant to what actually matters," smirking, David knows 'exactly' what Hale is about to say next. "That is, the wrestling itself,".
"So, you're not too fussed how the fans respond to you then?" asking in a soft voice, with the hopes that Hale doesn't turn that question into a way to give him a lecture, David slightly relaxes as he looks back at his notes that have been made from this meeting. Vince simply glances at him, a hint of frustration evident in his eyes. It was these sorts of redundant questions (in his mind anyway) that make him reluctant to present himself in media situations, seeing as he'd rather use that time to relax and remain in seclusion before he absolutely has to appear:: that is, when the time comes for him to compete in his matches.
"I've 'never' been bothered by how they choose to respond," Vince's comment is straight to the point, with a blunt hint detected within his pitch. Slightly softening the frustration look, he wryly smirks at Davis who calmly regains his composure by pulling on the collar of his shirt. "I thought you knew me better than that," his soft laugh does nothing to ease the tension of this situation. "See, although I respect their right to reaction however they so choose, they're admittedly a very fickle bunch. By that, I mean that they can turn in an instant, even if they were treating you as their greatest hero," his smile slightly curling up more, the seriousness in his voice is unwavering. "It's how we react, that they feed off,".
"So, I simply cut off the head and focus solely on the task that's in front of me, which is what those who truly belong in this profession should be doing,". "Even if some of them aren't entirely able to acknowledge that as being truthful, due to how insecure they are about their status," David continues to write notes based off what is being said, knowing that people will flock to buy the papers and listen to the 'Davis Hour' tomorrow, all because there's the prospect of getting to hear and see what Vincent has to say. That's how big a draw the man is---even if he subtly wishes that people wouldn't pay that much attention to the ratings; focus solely on the talent base that he and others provide.
"Uh huh," is all Davis is able to state in response, as he is listening whilst also recording in writing what he is being told.
"That's not somebody that should be perceived as a wrestler. That's somebody who simply uses the title to try and make themselves out to be stronger than they really are. Than they actually feel inside," his eyes burning with a passionate flame, you can tell that he's putting every ounce of his emotions into this statement. "I know, that can be seen as me 'trashing' them, but it's not. It's simply me stating the facts about this business; some of the occupants that reside in it. If they can't handle that, then they can come to me and prove me wrong with their actions," his tone coming out like a request or invitation to anyone who wants to 'call him into question', he allows the sincere smile to show that he would like to see somebody challenge his words. "Words can be spun in anyway that you so desire them to be; actions can not. Actions remain the same, regardless of however you attempt to twist them; turn them favorably toward you," His mind turning, it's obvious that Vincent is preparing some sort of rhetorical question---or at least one that is obviously easy to answer, for David. "How would you elect to judge somebody, on whether or not you should trust them:: by their words, or by their actions?".
"By their actions, of course," The tone in David's voice revealing that he found the question easy to answer, but by the slightly calm look he receives in return---he can tell that the question was meant to be obvious. "I mean, they have to prove they're worthy of any trust that I'll be giving them," he then takes a soft breath, as he allows a laugh to flow into his air, passively from his lips.
"Exactly," follows the completion of Davis's sentence, as Vincent looks at him calmer and in more of a professional manner. "You're not going to hand out your trust to somebody just because they say to, you'll want to see them earn it first,". "Wrestling is meant to be the same in that regard, but ofcourse, there's always going to be those people who believe that they should be trusted, simply because they say they can be," scratching his right hand side temple slightly, he uses his left hand to pick up; eat the remaining piece of cake that is left. "I guess you can't teach those that aren't willing---but I will leave you with this reminder---words are meaningless, actions are permanent," standing up, Vince then begins to walk away from the cafe table:: not before stating "Thanks for the time today," to Davis, who has resumed eating the rest of his burger.
"No problems. Thanks for letting me have this chat," Davis then does one final look through his notes, before he finishes the burger and gets up to leave the table, heading in the opposite direction to Vincent.
