[Saint Anne's on the Sea. The location of the Blackpool International Airport. Small, but serviceable, especially when taking a Jet2.com flight from Belfast (Northern Ireland), which is where Ian had been staying the four days previous. Unlike the majority of people, he elected NOT to go through London- and namely, Heathrow airport, simply because it's not worth it to take excessive trips, especially through a place that is notoriously a shite hole, like London. On the other hand, Blackpool is another notorious shite hole; not to the level of London, but still a viscous location to visit...if you've never been there before. Luckily for Ian, he has been to Blackpool, so he knows what to expect. He knows the culture and he knows the right places to go, in order to ensure his safety for the duration of his stay. The setting currently flicks to the exterior of the building, which is a brick design that has a polished black leather sign up top, looking surprisingly modern if you think about the quaint area that it's in. A slight scan around should be evidence enough that aside from the airport- this is quiet a friendly and calm place to be.
One of the more friendly neighbourhoods in the Blackpool general area. It is about five metres to the south east of this shot, that Ian Lenton can be seen, sitting on a park bench; his luggage placed on the concrete to his right, aside from the tangerine shirt, jeans and white casual shoes that he is wearing, although the weather is chilly and there's a slight breeze in the air. A wry smirk comes upon his face, which is common for him- he didn't even really think too much about his Hybrid title loss to Tommy Rowan, instead electing to come back to the UK in order to recover from an illness that he has been suffering from. Seemingly awaiting the arrival of somebody, Ian looks down at his watch, noticing that it's seven thirty five in the morning- not too early, especially for somebody who's been known for his early morning gym sessions (a key component of why he's in fantastic shape at the age of thirty-three). Placing his right hand back onto his lap, he allows a soft sigh to float into the air, before laughing aloud, even if it's only to himself.]
IAN: El Fuhrer O'Cruel. Supposedly a villainous luchadore from Mexico, yet what is there that makes him stand out? What makes him any different, to the run-of-the-mill luchadores that come along on a regular basis, making proclamations about either how proud they are of their heritage, or how they plan to break away from stereotypes that inevitably come with being Mexican? Because honestly, I see nothing with him, that hasn't been seen before. That others haven't done before him, whether they were successful in doing so or not.
[Slightly smirking further, Ian allows his remarks to float into the air.]
IAN: See, you attempt to hide behind a mask- nothing wrong with that, we all wear masks of some sort: whether those masks be literal or figurative. I'll admit that I wear a mask, if we're talking about the figurative sense of the word, but you expect yours to make you some sort of feared being. That you want people to respect your history; your past, when you yourself, don't truly respect it. You can state all you want about how you DO respect your heritage, but do you sincerely mean it? Or do you second-guess yourself, before making the comments? Think deeply about how you answer that, because you'll either be showing yourself to be either a prideful being, or you'll simply be proving me to be correct.
Either way, it could very well be lose-lose for you. You might have the same question for me, but just know: I wouldn't be using the "Pride of Britain" moniker, if I wasn't proud of my heritage. If I wasn't proud of who I am; where I come from. My heart beats passionately for this great land, there's nothing that will EVER be able to change that. Nothing that will ever stop me from declaring that the EOV has come to the greatest wrestling nation in the world. No, the greatest NATION in the world, period. Sure, Blackpool mightn't be the prettiest place you'll ever visit, but does that truly matter? We're not here to judge in sight-seeing, we're here to fight.
[an pauses, inhaling deeply; allowing the cool air to fill his lungs.]
IAN: And Blackpool is bred on fighting. There's not too many other places in the world that I would rather fight in, especially when you know the culture you're entering. When you know just what needs to be done; how it needs to be done. Whilst you'll be transfixed on making this as close to a wrestling match as you can, I'll be going out there with the singular intention on making this a fight. That might be cliche, but you'll soon learn that it's the truth. Just like everything else that I've told you.
[Slightly positioning the palm of his hands on the edge of the bench, Ian places the bulk of his weight on them before using them to elevate himself into a vertical position. Tilting his head towards his luggage, a look of sheer intensity appears in his eyes as his smile slightly fades back into the wry grin that it had been before. Taking about three short steps forward, he looks out to the scenery that lays ahead of him.]
IAN: Maybe other people will look to placate you- tell you that you're unique, but I'm not them. I won't look to treat you as anyone else but the generic Mexican who parades themselves around, for that is what you've shown yourself to be so far. That is what I've gotten from the impression that you have left. That is, unless you're able to prove to me different sometime before we step into the ring on Saturday.
[Softly laughing, Ian then slightly drops his head, but still focusing on the spaces ahead. Calm, yet also intense in the desire to ensure that everything that needs to be said, actually gets said, you can feel a slight feeling of tension begin to rise within the air. A feeling, that is all-too-common when you see a personality like Ian's talking. Whether that be in a wrestling sense, or simply in general. A soft sigh leaves his lips once more as Ian slowly walks back towards the bench where he had been situated before.]
IAN: This isn't about that though. This isn't about me getting another shot at Rowan; taking the championship from him, because that WILL happen in time. Tommy won the cage of death ladder match, but here's the thing- can he beat me a second time? Can he prove that his win, was more than a blip on my part?
[Shrugging, Ian allows that question to rest on everybody's mind. He knows that Tommy will have a response to it; he wants Tommy to reply.]
IAN: I doubt that even HE knows the answer. As I said, that's not what this match is about. This match is about going out there and earning some pride. It's about either you proving that you are to be a force that can shape EOV, or proving me right. Proving, that you are nothing more than just another luchadore, that has nothing to set himself apart. Nothing to show that he is different from anyone else that has come before him.
I'll admit- maybe you see me as being just another Englishman. Just a stereotype that has been cast; your perception of me is guided by that. That's fine, just like my perception of you is guided by what I have encountered in the past. I'm not going to yell at you, tell you that you cannot have that opinion...as long as you don't do that to me. The moment you try and twist my words, will reveal that you failed to grasp the concept behind them. That you didn't understand the reality that I am preaching.
[Ian's focus is slightly shifted, as out of the far right corner of his eye- he can see highly-esteemed EOV interviewer Danny Brannigan slowly making his way into the shot, a smile across his face. His charcoal shirt, black trousers and brown leather dress shoes ensuring that he stands out, he grasps the tape recorder that shall be used as the recording devise in his right hand- making sure that it's ready for when he commences the impending interview. Ian tilts his head in the direction from which Danny is approaching; welcoming him with a slight nod of the head.]
DANNY: Hello, Ian? Do you mind giving us a moment of your time for a quick interview?
IAN: Certainly. After all, we're in my home country; these fans deserve to receive the thoughts of the Pride Of Britain.
[Pressing the record button on the tape recorder, Danny holds it a safe distance between both himself and Ian- an act done so that people will be able to hear clearly, what is being said.]
DANNY: Danny: Ok Ian, now last week you had the week off from competition as it's reported you flew back to the UK. Do you think your week of rest will help you at all going into your match this week?
IAN: Aye, I came back to the United Kingdom and took some time to recuperate from different injuries and illnesses. Will it benefit me? At this stage, I couldn't give a definitive answer, but I know I'm as close to one hundred percent fit and healthy as I can be.
[Danny slightly nods, understanding what Ian is getting across with that answer.]
DANNY: This week you face a man that goes by El Fuhrer O'Cruel, do you know of him and what are your thoughts on facing him in a match?
[Ian slightly laughs to himself, thinking back to the earlier comments that he had made; knowing that this time, he'll be saying his thoughts in a more official situation.]
IAN: I know of him well enough, to know he'll be attempting to bring the lucha libre style to our match. That's not the sort of thing that will work against me. See, I'm not here to make this a traditional wrestling match- we're in Blackpool; this is going to be a fight.
DANNY: Care to elaborate on what the fans can expect to see in this match?
IAN: They can expect this to be nothing short of a brawl, commonly seen in pubs around the nation. Lancashire is one of the original homes of catch as catch can wrestling, which for those who don't know...is what all wrestling is based off, so you can expect to see this being a rugged and brutal affair.
DANNY: Does it bother you at all that O'Cruel has went 2-0 since his debut into EoV?
[Slightly slinking his face into the palm of his right hand, it can clearly be seen that Ian is less than amused with that question.]
IAN: Not at all. He's two and zero, I'm two and one. There's not much of a difference there; records mean nothing when you step into the ring- you're not facing the same opponent every week. I'm simply focused on going out there; getting the win this week, just like O'cruel should be.
DANNY: Okay. Is there anything that you would like to let the fans or O'Cruel know as you go into Chaos two?
IAN: O'Cruel, you best know...Once you step into the ring, any emotional connection you might be feeling, WILL be used against you. Make sure you make the right choices. One wrong choice and you're a dead man.
DANNY: Thankyou for your time.
[Ian smirks, as he returns to his luggage, having seen the arrival of his personal car into one of the vacant spots.]
IAN: Pleasure was all mine, fella.
[Ian picks up his luggage, getting ready to head to the Premier Inn hotel that EOV booked for all their superstars, in the build up to Chaos number two. SCENE CLOSES.]
